Use the Incorporation Service

Before you start…

Do some reading

Before you do anything you will need to identify your aims and ambitions as well as the ethos of your CLT and what legal form is right for you.

To help you, please read the resources we have available to download from the bottom of this page:

  • Introduction to Legal Formats
  • Charitable Status and its implications

You could also refer to the CLT Handbook in the Members' Area.

Seek advice

Please also talk to your enabling hub or get legal advice if required.

Remember that National CLT Network members are entitled to a free legal hotline with Anthony Collins and Wrigleys Solicitors:

Compare rules

Both the charitable and non-charitable version of the rules can be downloaded from the bottom of this page.

You should also look at other versions of template constitutions for CLTs to see what is best suited to your objectives. Several other organisations have model rules, including the Somerset Cooperative Society, Co-operatives UK and the Plunkett Foundation.
