In brief: With work just about to start on their first self-build scheme at Fishponds, Bristol CLT is now expanding onto a second development in the city, on a backlands site which has resisted development for many years. The CLT is a focal point for self-build interest in the city, and has done some exemplary community-led design work to secure support for the new development and to bring together local residents in housing need. The new scheme will develop around 50 new homes in partnership with a local housing association.
Why they are part of the programme: There is much to learn from Bristol CLT: including running a self-build scheme in an urban area, exemplary methods of community engagement and building a strong relationship with the local authority. As they expand onto a second scheme, the CLT is addressing some big questions about how local governance operates for a city-wide CLT.
