Chipping CLT: the evolution of an almshouse association
The Brabin's Trust, as almshouse association, has been providing housing for people on low incomes for over 3 centuries. Recently it formed Chipping Community Land Trust to provide affordable housing in perpetuity for local people.
There are two charities managed by the Trust: an almshouse association, which provides homes for people on low incomes; and an education foundation, which owns one of the two local schools. The Brabin's Trust is keen to use its 330 years' housing experience, as well as its land and financial assets, to increase the provision of affordable housing through a Community Land Trust.
