Buckland Newton Community Property Trust : a solution led by the local community
Summary
Buckland Newton CPT, West Dorset, was formed by local people to provide affordable homes for those with close connections with the village through residency, family or work. In this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, rural wages could not keep pace with local houseprices.
An initial farmhouse-style development of 10 homes has recently been completed. The scheme provides 5 Assured Tenancy properties and 5 Shared Equity properties.
The support of West Dorset District Council was instrumental in ensuring the scheme was implemented. The council has also provided a long term loan for the rental homes. A grant of £550,000 was provided by HCA.
