The National CLT Network has welcomed the announcement by Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, of new plans for a Community Housing Hub to support community-led housing in the capital. The Hub will provide community housing groups, including CLTs, with technical support as well advice on accessing funding and land. The Greater London Authority is providing in £250,000 in funding for the Hub, which follows the award of a £500,000 grant to Naked House, a Community Land Trust delivering affordable housing in Enfield. The Hub is due to launch this summer.
Sadiq Khan said: “Community-led housing offers the chance to build new homes Londoners that want to live in. Londoners should be able to play a leading role in building their own communities, but for too long this has been difficult and they have had no support or access to funding. That’s why my new Homes for Londoners Community Housing Hub will act as a one-stop shop for Londoners interested in getting involved in community-led housing.”
Catherine Harrington, Director of the National CLT Network, said: “We welcome the announcement of a new Homes for Londoners Community Housing Hub. Community-led housing has huge potential to address London’s housing crisis, delivering affordable homes as well as empowering communities.
"With several Community Land Trusts already planning and building homes in London, we've proven that CLTs can thrive in urban areas. This new Hub will give groups in London the technical skills and resources to grow and deliver more homes for their communities that are affordable now and in the future. We look forward to working closely together with the Hub to support CLTs across London.”
