Local Advocacy Toolkit
This easy-to-digest booklet has tips and tricks to building a productive relationship with your local council. Whether you’re a seasoned group that would like to see its membership grow or a newly formed one that’s looking to build connections in your local council, we hope you’ll find this document to be useful.
Local CLH Manifesto
It’s always good to be able to describe precisely what you’d like from your local council. This local manifesto is to help you do just that. It gives you precise asks and helps your councilors and officers understand the ways they can implement community led housing in their policies and processes.
You may find inspiration in drafting your own manifesto from the CCIN Housing Commission’s website and report, and the CLH Toolkit put together by HACT.
Local Council Template Letter
You will find that the first step to building a relationship with your council will often be via an email or letter. This is a simple and straight-to-the-point letter you can send to get your council's attention. You could send the local CLH manifesto along with this too.
There are local elections coming up in May. Click here to see if there’s one in your area. Now is a perfect opportunity to reach out to candidates to ask for their support and make a pledge to support community led housing. Grab your advocacy toolkit, local manifesto and letter and start building those relationships! If you do get a pledge please let us know.
